Fall Tips To Keep Your Garden Looking Great
Northern Wisconsin weather is challenge for the gardener, but "fall" doesn't have to be just another four letter word. If your entry or patio pots look like they have had it, there is a way you can extend the growing season. You can replace some of the plants in your planters or garden with new plants for a fresh new look for fall. Pansies, asters, flowering kale, and garden mums all add new color and interest to your pots. I like to replace some of my plants to bring some of the rich colors of fall to my front porch and yard. These plants are tolerant of cool fall temperatures and will continue to look good even after a light frost or dusting of snow.
With the exception of the flowering kale, you may also be getting a head start on next year's garden. Quite often pansies, asters and garden mums will winter over in the garden. We've had a planting of pansies in front of the store successfully winter over the past two winters. They always bloom far earlier than the plants that were set out that spring!
